Supreme Court Asks Petitioner To First File Representation Before Bar Council Of India: Plea Challenging AIBE Fees

The Supreme Court in the case Sanyam Gandhi Versus Union Of India And Anr was hearing the petition filed by Advocate, appearing as petitioner-in-person, wherein challenging the fees and other incidental charges of the All India Bar Examination, AIBE.

The petitioner in the plea states that the Bar Council of India, BCI charges an amount of Rs.3,500 for the All India Bar Examination, AIBE which being in violation of the Supreme Court's judgment in the case of Gaurav Kumar v. UOI, 2024.

The Supreme Court's judgment in the case of Gaurav Kumar v. UOI, the three-judge bench comprising of former CJI DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra held that the enrolment fee cannot exceed an amount of Rs.750 for advocates belonging to the general category and Rs.125 for advocates belonging to SC or ST categories as stated in Section 24 of the Advocates Act, 1961.

The bench comprising of Justice Pardiwala and Justice R. Mahadevan was hearing the present matter.
