Shinde's 'Jai Gujarat' slogan kicks up row, Fadnavis defends his deputy

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's 'Jai Gujarat' slogan at a Pune event kicked up a row, with the Congress seeking his resignation by dubbing it as "sycophancy and political slavery" while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis defended his colleague.

NCP (SP) said Shinde has betrayed the Marathi 'manoos' (person).
"Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra, Jai Gujarat," Shinde said at the event, where Union minister Amit Shah was present. Shah addressed the gathering in Gujarati language.
"Just because Shinde said Jai Gujarat, it doesn't mean that Shinde loves Gujarat more than Maharashtra," Fadnavis told reporters.
"Such a parochial thinking doesn't behove Marathi manoos," he added.
