RAJSAMAND LAKE: A LEGACY OF WATER AND WISDOM

The heritage of this state that once upon a time belonged to kings and queens has a legacy. Even the topography has its own story. One such lake is Rajsamand Lake. In today's world, where water scarcity and climate change are becoming serious concerns, Rajsamand Lake in Rajasthan shines as a symbol of ancient wisdom and practical foresight. Recently, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma visited this historic lake, offering prayers and participating in a lake worship ceremony. His visit highlighted the importance of water conservation and environmental protection, sending a strong message to citizens and policymakers alike.

A LAKE BUILT WITH VISION AND SACRIFICE Rajsamand Lake, located in Rajasthan's Rajsamand district, was built in the 17th century by Maharana Raj Singh I of Mewar. Constructed between 1662 and 1676, it wasn't just a royal project but a thoughtful solution to water and food problems of that time. The lake was created by blocking three rivers—Gomati, Kelwa, and Tali—and served as a vital source of irrigation and drinking water, especially during famines.

What makes the story more powerful is the Maharana's dedication. He weighed himself in gold and donated the entire amount for public welfare. Even today, this lake continues to provide water to over 10,000 hectares of farmland, proving how wise and long-lasting planning can benefit future generations.
