Manohar Lal Khattar pledges to clear Delhi’s Bhalswa landfill by October 2026

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, on Tuesday visited the Bhalswa landfill site as part of the Seva Pakhwada observance and declared that Delhi's massive garbage mounds will be removed within the coming year.

The programme, held under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, also featured a tree plantation drive with the participation of several dignitaries, including Delhi Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood, Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar, along with other senior officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Khattar explained that Seva Pakhwada will be celebrated from September 17 — the birth anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi — to October 2, which marks the birthdays of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

He said that during this fortnight, a wide range of activities will be organized, including large-scale cleanliness drives, blood donation camps, and several public competitions. A special nationwide sanitation campaign is also scheduled for September 25 to commemorate Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s birth anniversary.
