Main accused arrested; cop says people 'helped' Ujjain rape survivor with cash

The prime suspect in the horrific rape case of a young girl was arrested by the Ujjain Police on Thursday.

The victim had been spotted walking door to door asking for assistance and was even shooed away by others.

According to authorities, the accused, who has been named Bharat Soni, is a resident of the Nanakheda neighborhood in the Madhya Pradesh city of Ujjain and works as an autorickshaw driver.

Meanwhile, after footage from a neighbourhood showed the minor girl raped and bleeding, going from door-to-door seeking help but getting refused, Ujjain Police chief Sachin Sharma gave a different angle to the report, saying that people did help her with money, a “grand total” of Rs 120.

The girl’s condition is now stable, though she has suffered very serious injuries.
