Madras High Court Stays Single Judge Order Directing Inquiry Against Customs Officers for Seizing 'Thali' of Newly Married Woman

The Madras High Court Division bench in the case The Principal Commissioner of Customs and Another v. Thanushika observed and has stayed a single judge order wherein the court directed inquiry against Customs officers who forcefully removed the thali of a newly married woman on suspicion of smuggling gold.
The Division bench comprising of Justice SS Sundar and Justice C Saravanan was hearing the present matter.
The bench in the case stayed the order of Justice Krishnan Ramasamy on an appeal filed by the Principal Commissioner of Customs, Chennai.
The respondent i.e., the original petitioner had approached the court after the customs officer forcefully removed the gold worn by her and her family members when they arrived at the Chennai airport for a pilgrimage.
