India reaffirms voice for Global South at UNGA
The Daily Guardian
|September 29, 2025
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Saturday told the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) that the credibility of the UN is “eroding” due to resistance to reform, urging expansion of both permanent and non-permanent memberships of the Security Council and affirming that India “stands ready to assume greater responsibilities”.
-

He argued that the “historical injustice” done to Africa must be addressed and said a reformed Council must be “truly representative”. "Most members strongly desire change; but the process is being made an obstacle to the outcome. It is imperative that we see through this cynicism and purposefully address the reform agenda," Jaishankar said.
