India moving towards self-reliance in fertiliser production: Nadda
The Daily Guardian
|February 08, 2025
The country is making significant progress toward self-reliance in fertilizer production, reducing its dependence on costly imports, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers and Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda informed the Lok Sabha on Friday.
In a written reply in response to a question the minister told the House that a series of government policies and new investments have led to a substantial increase in both urea and phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilizer production.
The minister said that due to the government's New Investment Policy (NIP) for urea, introduced in 2012 and amended in 2014, has encouraged fresh investments in the urea sector.
Under this policy, six new urea plants have been established, adding a production capacity of 76.2 lakh metric tonnes per annum (LMTPA), he said.
