Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil has announced key measures to address groundwater depletion in Haryana's dark zone blocks emphasizing the central government's commitment to effective water conservation and recharge initiatives in collaboration with the Haryana government.

During his visit to Chandigarh, Patil in the presence of Haryana agriculture and farmers welfare minister Shyam Singh Rana, informed the media persons that around 150 districts across India have blocks classified as dark zones due to critically low groundwater levels, with Haryana being part of this list. "Efforts are being made to ensure Haryana's blocks emerge from the dark zone category through rainwater conservation, which will only succeed with active public participation," he added.
