BJD, BRS abstain from VP polls; Congress takes a swipe

Just a day before the Vice-Presidential elections, the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the K. Chandrashekar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) announced they will abstain from voting, citing their independent positions and focus on state welfare.
BJD Rajya Sabha MP. Sasmit Patra said the decision followed consultations with party chief Patnaik, senior leaders, and MPs.
"BJD remains equidistant from NDA and INDIA bloc.
We are focused on the development and welfare of Odisha and its 4.5 crore people," he said.
