Analog Elegance: A Six-Decade Visual Journey Through Rajasthan

This unique exhibition offers a compelling visual narrative of Rajasthan's rich culture and daily life, captured over the past 60 years by acclaimed Jaipur-based jeweller and photographer Sudhir Kasliwal, whose work brings to life the timeless spirit and stories of the desert state.

Analog photography, often referred to as film photography, is the original form of image-making that has captivated generations of artists, storytellers, and enthusiasts. Unlike digital photography, which uses electronic sensors to capture and process images, analog photography relies on light-sensitive film to record scenes through a chemical process. This technique, which dates back to the 19th century, is celebrated not just for its historical significance, but also for its unique aesthetic, tactile process, and emotional depth.

At the heart of analog photography is a sense of intentionality and patience. Each shot must be carefully composed and exposed, as film rolls offer a limited number of frames—typically 24 or 36. This constraint encourages photographers to slow down, observe more deeply, and truly connect with their subject. The process doesn't end with the click of a shutter; developing the film in a darkroom and printing the image by hand are integral parts of the creative journey. These steps require skill, precision, and a deep understanding of chemical processes, adding to the photographer's craftsmanship.
