Do we give our disabled citizens the respect that they are entitled to?

Close your eyes for a few minutes and try to find your way around without your sight. Imagine what it would be like not being able to speak to others or hear the wonderful sounds of music or the birds outside. How would you cope if you did not have the use of your legs? What would it be like if you have to rely on help from another person?

National legislation defines a person with a disability as someone who is limited in one or more functional activities. These include hearing, seeing, learning, moving, intellectual and emotional disabilities, and may be permanent or transitory.

All these disabilities have one thing in common; they create barriers and discrimination within our society.
