WEATHER: DELAYED GRADE 3 FEATURE TAKES PROMINENT PLACE ON TURFFONTEIN CARD
One Stripe produces a remarkable display in King’s Plate.
Last week saw the running of the Grade 1 L'Ormarins King's Plate over 1600m at Kenilworth and we witnessed one of the best performances of the season, an effort that will be just that come the end of our season.
One Stripe showed his championship quality by winning one of the best races in the country against older horses in absolute dominant fashion, proving to us we still haven't seen his full potential, and the sky is the limit.
This was a really quality field, but the outcome was never in doubt and it's hard to see anyone being able to challenge him over this trip for the foreseeable future.
Well done to Vaughan Marshall and Gavin Lerena on the lovely win and a massive well done to owner Rikesh Sewgoolam on the fantastic win.
We also saw a superb performance by Double Grand Slam in the Grade 1 Cartier Paddock Stakes where she proved herself to be one of the best fillies in the country, finally getting the Grade 1 win she deserves.
The fact that she did it over 1800m, with a very strong pace, proved the doubters who thought she wouldn't stay wrong. This was out of the top drawer and well done to Justin Snaith, Richard Fourie and all the partners of this lovely filly.
On a personal note, I haven't managed to ride since my initial comeback opportunities due to the rain and I'll be hoping to get a few rides and winners under the belt ASAP.
Racing today takes place at Turffontein racecourse as well as Hollywoodbets Kenilworth and there is a double header for punters on offer.
The Turffontein card is the race meeting that we will be previewing, as it hosts a number of feature races which were moved from last week's card.
