Official on drunk driving rap

The Matlosana local municipality has been rocked by scandal after ANC councillor and MMC for local economic development Wesley Kgang appeared in the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court yesterday, facing charges of drunken driving, assault and resisting arrest.

What began as a routine traffic stop in the early hours of Saturday spiralled into a violent confrontation captured on video and widely shared on social media - putting a municipal official into the glare of apparent misconduct and eroding public trust.

Video footage circulating on social media over the weekend purportedly shows Kgang involved in a scuffle with a group of at least three traffic officers, who were taking him to a waiting police vehicle.

He was seemingly forced into the vehicle as he refused to enter voluntarily.
