King's Plate race day lives up to the hype

HUMDINGER. It doesn't get much closer than this. The Real Prince (noseband) holds off Questioning, See It Again and Sail The Seas to win the L'Ormarins King's Plate over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday. Picture: Wayne Marks

It was billed as one of the best racecards ever assembled in South Africa and the L'Ormarins King's Plate meeting at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth lived up to the hype.

The 10-race card saw some of the best horses in the land take their places, especially in the three Grade 1 events - the L'Ormarins King's Plate, the World Pool Cape Flying Championships and the Cartier Paddock Stakes for fillies and mares.

A feature of all three races was despite being weight-for age events, there were no easy winners, each of them producing a thrilling finish.
