Jordaan charges killing the Safa brand
The Citizen
|December 14, 2024
Now that the dust has settled after Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana secured qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations and the Women's Africa Cup of Nations respectively, I think it's time to address the elephant in the room at Safa House.
We can't in good conscience keep quiet anymore regarding the South African Football Association president Danny Jordaan, who is facing serious allegations of fraud and theft. The 73-year-old, along with the association's CFO Gronnie Hluyo, and Trevor Neethling, who owns Grit Communications, are currently out on R20 000 bail following their arrests last month.
Their arrests came as a result of an investigation by the Hawks into an alleged R1.3 million fraud from 2014 to 2018. It is alleged that the unauthorised use of Safa resources is at the heart of this case.
The basic principle of innocent until proven guilty must apply, but I think it would be good for the integrity and image of Safa if Jordaan steps aside until his name is cleared.

Could Maharaj's Test spot be in danger?
It feels silly to even suggest this, but based on the performances of the country's strong spin bowling contingent, Keshav Maharaj's place in the national Test team might be in danger.
