Government undermined, says Mbaks

Political parties expressed frustration after the budget speech was postponed yesterday due to disagreements within the government of national unity (GNU).

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana was scheduled to deliver the first budget under the GNU at the Nieuwmeester Dome in Cape Town.

However, National Assembly speaker Thoko Didiza announced at the start of proceedings the tabling of the budget had been postponed to March.

The delay follows intense discussions within Cabinet over proposed tax increases, after President Cyril Ramaphosa called an emergency meeting.
