The Afrika Mayibuye Movement has set tongues wagging with a fundraising gala that puts a R2 million price tag on a seat beside leader Floyd Shivambu.
Hosted at the Mhulu Luxury Boutique Hotel in Midrand on 28 November, the event promises fine dining and live entertainment - but it has reignited debate over whether political access is being sold by the plate.
Gala dinners, a common strategy used by several political parties, have often been scrutinised and raised suspicions over political influence being “bought”.
The EFF made headlines in 2023 when it priced a seat at the table with their leader Julius Malema at R1.2 million. It was snapped up by an unknown buyer.
