A NEWCASTLE nursery cooperative has secured a top award.

Childsplay Claremont Nursery Cooperative won the prestigious Nursery World Nursery of the year award. Judge Helen Moylett described it as "a unique and special place".
Situated on Claremont Road, Childsplay is a nonprofit cooperative with staff and parents all having a say in the running of the organisation. It is also a research informed provider, working with Newcastle and Northumbria universities.
Founded in 1982, it is typically described as having a family feel. Their Early Years Educators are experts in education and passionate about their practice, which is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy that centres child-led enquiry and discovery to learn about the world.
Diane Gregory, Childsplay Nursery Manager, said: "As a team, we are in disbelief to have been recognised for the joyful and inspiring work we create, develop, and love delivering alongside children.
