Loving praise for young who are brave of heart

FOURTEEN children and young people who have been through health challenges have been given a special award marking their bravery.

The Brave Hearts awards honour youngsters who have been diagnosed with illnesses such as leukaemia, brain tumours and those who have had to undergo operations such as open heart surgery.

Each youngster has been named a Brave Heart of the North East and given a special trophy and a gift of their choice, marking their determination during hospital treatment that has often taken place at the nearby Royal Victoria Infirmary or Freeman hospitals.
