Local school reopens today after flooding over Christmas

A NORTHUMBERLAND school for children with additional needs will reopen today after the return from the Christmas holidays was delayed due to flooding.

Gilbert Ward Academy in Blyth had been due to welcome students back on Monday, but a leaking boiler forced bosses to keep the building closed.
Staff returned to school on Monday and, following an assessment of the damage, confirmed classes could resume from today as planned. The building opened in 2023 and caters to children aged 11-16 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and autism.
