ADVICE FOR FANS TOO, AFTER CANCER DIAGNOSIS
Kevin Keegan says farewell to Newcastle United in May, 1984
CHARITIES have issued messages of support after the news that Newcastle United icon Kevin Keegan has been diagnosed with cancer.
A statement released by his family on Wednesday said the diagnosis came after an evaluation of “abdominal symptoms”.
The news has seen tributes pour in for the former England captain, who both played for and later managed United.
Newcastle United put a message out to “King Kev” on social media, saying: “We're with you every step of the way. Hoping for a full and speedy recovery”.
Magpies fans chanted their support during Wednesday night's 4-3 win over Leeds United at St James’ Park.
In response to the news of Keegan's diagnosis, several cancer charities released statements of support, along with messages for fans who may be concerned about their own health.
Local charity Daft as a Brush released a statement from its CEO, Andrea Glover.
She said: “It is with great shock we learnt about ‘wor Kev’s diagnosis yesterday.
“Daft as a Brush clock up over 500,000 miles each year taking cancer patients in our region to Newcastle Hospitals for their vital treatment.
