Cannabis courier travelled business class from Thailand

A business class passenger who flew into Newcastle Airport carrying more than 30kg of cannabis has been locked up.

Dhroo Singh returned from a trip to Thailand and arrived back in Newcastle via Doha and Heathrow on April 18.
The 21-year-old, who was carrying a small Nike backpack, collected two large suitcases he had bought while in Thailand.
Newcastle Crown Court heard he was stopped by Border Force and said he was on his way to see a friend in Middlesbrough.
Antonia Adie, prosecuting, told the court: "He suggested he [bought the cases] in Thailand to bring cheap clothing back. He said he had nothing illegal."
