PLANS to build short-stay apartments above a Newcastle city centre department store are set to be given the green light.
TJ Hughes in Grainger Street, Newcastle. Inset above, plans for the two-storey extension
Proposals to convert part of the city's TJ Hughes store and build a two-storey roof extension to the Grade II* listed site, in Grainger Street, could be approved by councillors this week.
If approved, developer TS R1 Ltd would retain the ground floor and basement of the building as a shop, but renovate the store's upper floors to create 166 short-stay serviced flats.
There would also be visitor amenities including a gym and games area.
