Shopkeepers fined for selling illegal cigarettes and vapes

CHESHIRE West and Chester Council has prosecuted two people for illegal tobacco and cigarette offences following investigations by trading standards officers.

The defendants were sentenced at Chester Magistrates Court on June 18.
Kamalamuthu Arulprasandh, aged 35, of Cherry Road in Chester was charged with two offences relating to the possession of 105 illegal cigarettes in November 2023.
Disposable vapes seized by trading standards officers from his premises, AK Food and Wine in Chester, contained 10ml of nicotine liquid well in excess of the legal limit of 2ml.
He received total fines of £933 consisting of a £345 fine, £138 victim surcharge and £450 costs.
