How mothers are building businesses while rewriting rules of work and family life
Motherhood and entrepreneurship—two roles that demand time, energy, and resilience—are coming together to form a powerful movement: the rise ofmompreneurs. Across India and the world, mothers are redefining business, breaking stereotypes, and proving that ambition doesn’t pause after childbirth.
WHY THE RISE OF MOMPRENEURS?
Traditionally, women were expected to choose between career and family. However, changing social dynamics, digital connectivity, and the startup boom have opened new avenues. Many mothers are opting for entrepreneurship to strike a balance between financial independence and family responsibilities.
For some, it's about pursuing a long-pending dream; for others, it’s about finding flexibility. “Motherhood changed my priorities, but not my ambition,” says a Delhi-based mompreneur who launched her sustainable clothing brand during her maternity break.
The COVID-19 pandemic further accelerated this shift. With remote work and e-commerce becoming mainstream, women found it easier to start online businesses—from home bakeries and craft stores to tech-enabled platforms.
BALANCING MOTHERHOOD AND BUSINESS
The biggest challenge for mompreneurs is balance.
