Supreme Court asks Chief Secretaries of states or UTs to designate senior officer to supervise compliance with RPwD Act

The Supreme Court in the case Justice Sunanda Bhandare Foundation Versus Union Of India observed wherein the Public Interest Litigation, PIL is filed seeking implementation of the provisions of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act.

The Supreme Court in the case called on noncompliant states or Union Territories to file their response or affidavits on further steps taken to comply with the provisions of the Act by February, 2025.
The bench comprising of Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice SVN Bhatti was hearing the present matter.
The bench in the case asked the Chief Secretary of each state or UT to designate a senior officer to supervise the process of compliance with the provisions.
The court passed the said order while taking into account a chart placed on record by Advocate Manali Singhal appearing for the petitioner, wherein it indicates non-compliance of the provisions of the Act by few states or UTS.
