Net FDI down to $3 bn in April-August: RBI data

Net foreign direct investment (FDI) in India, representing the difference between inflows and outflows, has witnessed a significant decline during the period of April to August this year, falling from $18.03 billion in the same timeframe last year to $2.99 billion. This decline can be attributed to several factors, including a moderation in global economic activities and a notable increase in repatriation of investments.

Data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its October 2023 bulletin sheds light on the changing landscape of FDI in and out of India. During April to August 2023, FDI inflows into India amounted to $7.28 billion, while FDI outflows from India (money invested abroad from the country) reached $4.28 billion. In the corresponding period of 2022, FDI inflows into India stood at $22.79 billion, with outflows at $4.76 billion.
