The upcoming biennial elections for 11 seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council from the MLA quota are set to be a crucial test for both the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) as the assembly elections approach later this year.

With 14 vacancies in the 288-member legislative house, an electoral college of 274, and a quota of 23 votes required for any candidate to win, the stakes are high.
