Jaishankar congratulates Seyed Abbas Aragchi on appointment as Iran's Foreign Minister

India's External Affairs Minister, S.Jaishankar, extended his congratulations to Seyed Abbas Aragchi on his appointment as the new Foreign Minister of Iran.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Jaishankar expressed his enthusiasm for working together to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries. His message read: "Congratulate Seyed Abbas Aragchi @ araghchi on your appointment as Foreign Minister of Iran. Look forward to working with you to further relations."
This appointment comes on the heels of a significant political shift in Iran, following the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi and other high-ranking officials, including the former Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in a helicopter crash in May. The crash, which occurred in Iran's remote northwestern region, led to a political vacuum that necessitated snap elections to appoint a new president and reestablish leadership in the country.
