India’s data centre industry’s capacity demand is projected to reach 650-800 MW during 2024-2026 due to the rapid expansion of computing power and new applications.

India’s data centre industry is poised for significant growth, with investments projected to reach USD 5.7 billion by 2026, driven by the increasing demand for Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to a report by real estate and investment management company JLL, this burgeoning sector is expected to add 791 MW of capacity, necessitating 10 million sq. ft. of real estate space.

A data centre is a specialized facility designed to centralize an organization’s IT operations, including data storage, processing, and transfer. The rapid expansion of computing power and the advent of new applications are anticipated to fuel strong demand for the data centre industry over the medium term. Specifically, the Indian data centre industry’s capacity demand is projected to reach between 650-800 MW during 2024-2026.

The primary driver behind this surge in demand is the widespread adoption of AI.
