The Business Guardian
|June 07, 2025
To combat rising air pollution, CPCC has issued strict notices to major departments in Chandigarh, directing urgent action under the Air Act.
Air pollution is becoming a big problem in Chandigarh. Now, with many guidelines, the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC) has issued notices to many big departments, including Railways, the Municipal Corporation, and the Engineering Department of the Chandigarh Administration. CPCC Member Secretary Saurabh Kumar said that air pollution in the city needs to be controlled.
To control the pollution, action is required on a large scale, and everyone's contribution is necessary. Therefore, these notices have been sent, and comments have been sought. If comments are not sent by the concerned departments or institutions, then the relevant instructions will be considered confirmed, and the departments will work on them further. CPCC will now send notices to Punjab University, different departments of the administration, the Central Government located in Chandigarh, and government departments in neighboring states. All the notices have been issued under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act-1981, Section 31-A. It has been stated that Chandigarh has been declared an Air Pollution Control Area in 1988. According to the Air Act, the Pollution Control Committee will set many guidelines to control pollution.
