Disability charity celebrates its 90th anniversary

THIS month Surrey-based disability charity, Queen Elizabeth's Foundation for Disabled People (QEF) is celebrating 90 years of providing innovative, expert services that enable disabled people to achieve their potential and live with greater independence.

The original employment training college was officially opened in 1935 by HRH The Duchess of York, later Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother in 1935, who later became the charity's Patron.

The training college supported hundreds of disabled people into employment, providing expert training across a wide variety of courses; from welding and radio repair during the Second World War, as part of the Disabled Section of the Munitions Training Scheme of the Ministry of Labour and National Service, to computer programming and secretarial skills in later years.

The college supported people like Dave from Dartford, who found out he had a brain tumour whilst serving in the armed forces.
