Guard of honour for retiring club secretary after 47 years

CHRIS Gay, a long-standing clubman for Chertsey Town, has retired from his position of club secretary after more than 47 years in the post.
He was given a guard of honour before The Curfews last home game of the season.
He took the reigns in February 1977 as a temporary arrangement when the then secretary, Ron Gristock, had to enter hospital for a couple of weeks.
Mr Gay actually joined the club's committee in June 1974 so he is about to complete 51 years in that role. In his continuous years as secretary, he also doubled up as treasurer for a total of 15 years. Groundsman duties also kicked in for quite some seasons post-millennium as well as being designated as the odd job man.
