Alfie's title fight glory hope

BOXER RECALLS TROUBLED JOURNEY TO PROFESSIONAL RANKS AS HE PREPARES FOR BIG FLYWEIGHT CONTEST

GUILDFORD boxer Alfie Clegg is hoping to claim the second title of his fledging professional career on Saturday night.

The 25-year-old heads to the York Hall in Bethnall Green to face Jonas Erastus for the Commonwealth Silver flyweight title in a battle of two unbeaten fighters.

But Clegg's journey to the paid ranks has been a troubled one and now that he has overcome those troubles, the IBO Youth World fly weight champion is giving back to the community with his own boxing gym, Classy's Boxing Gym.

"It [boxing] means the world to me," Clegg said. "Boxing is my life, because I have got so many young kids that look up to me. There are people who have been where I have been and it is good to give them hope. I have had very rocky moments in my life.

"I had panic attacks, the only place I wouldn't have panic attacks was when I was boxing. I could be boxing in front of hundreds of people, but then not go to school.
