Your pet could be a lifesaver to dogs in need of blood

Dog owners in Sunderland are being urged to offer their pets up to be potential lifesavers.

Pet Blood Bank UK is currently appealing for dogs to become blood donors - with a donation session organised at the Bridge Referrals veterinary surgery in Boldon Colliery next month.

The charity collects blood from donor dogs across the UK which then go towards helping to save the lives of other dogs in need.

Each animal gets a full health check from before donating - and leaves with a 'goody bag' and toy to take home.

A spokesman for Pet Blood Bank UK said: "This is a really vital service.
