Here's something to really get your teeth into – a tasty new steakhouse
Sunderland Echo
|November 12, 2025
With its hill top site overlooking Houghton, Hetton and beyond, The Copt Hill is one of the best-known pubs in the area – and it’s entered a new chapter as a steakhouse.
Frallo steakhouse has opened its doors at Copt Hill, Houghton-le-Spring, with co-director Max Mandri and headchef Leo Diano.
Frallo has just opened its doors at the landmark pub in Seaham Road, specialising in various cuts of 28-day aged steaks.
It's been brought to the area by Dorian Koti and Dean Lathbury, who already own the popular Novello’s in Washington and Gosforth, who've teamed up with business partner Max Mandri for the new venture.
The trio have taken over the lease at the site after seeing a gap in the market for a steakhouse in the area.
Max said: “I used to work with Nicola who owns the site and knew how much potential this site has, it's such a great spot that appeals to all ages.
