Ministers say the landmark bill will 'put passengers before profits'
-
A new state-owned company will run Britain's railways in what is being billed as the biggest shakeup of rail services in a generation.
The proposal to create Great British Railways will mean train passengers will be able to buy all their tickets through a "one-stop-shop" app, with ministers promising a "simpler, more reliable and more responsive" railway.
Reforms under the Railways Bill, which was laid in Parliament on Wednesday, include making buying tickets easier by creating a new GBR website and app, which will replace 14 existing operator platforms.
Tickets would also be available to purchase at all station offices, vending machines or on board trains - for any service - in an effort to streamline services.
The Department for Transport says GBR-to be headquartered in Derby, West Mids. - will "create a simpler, more unified railway that delivers easier journeys and offers better value for money"
