Far-right thugs spark demo chaos

DRUNKEN flag-waving far-right thugs brought chaos to the capital in repeated clashes with police.

Bottles, flares and projectiles - as well as kicks and punches - were aimed at officers trying to keep the peace during Tommy Robinson's Unite the Kingdom march.

At one point a glass bottle seemed to be smashed against a horse, causing the animal and rider to stagger backwards.

Officers were seen with batons drawn trying to push back protesters in Whitehall and Trafalgar Square.

Nine arrests were made with more planned in the coming days. An estimated 110,000 protesters were in Whitehall for the event and another 5,000 joined a counter March Against Fascism, organised by Stand Up To Racism.

A witness said: "It was frightening to see this happen in London. Many protesters were young and middle-aged men in groups who had been drinking since early morning, including downing cans in the street.
