It’s an apt introduction to our stay in this most wholesome of retreats. Cabu is a grassy field of 20 luxurious cabins abutting the seawall in St Margarets, one of those quiet coastal villages in Kent's forgotten triangle, where Dungeness stretches a lazy elbow out into the English Channel.

This place is all about little details. The log burner is stacked and set to be lit with a single match. Big, fluffy-soft towels in the bathroom, striped ones on the top shelf — for beach and pool. In the kitchen, there’s a picnic basket in case you want to pack it up for the beach. If you don’t fancy making your own, order one from the on site shop.
