HEROINE SISTERS OF THE HUNGER STRIKES

MEDALS dubbed the Victoria Cross of the suffragette movement that were awarded to two Scots who went on hunger strike while in prison could fetch £15,000 at auction.

Sisters Margaret and Frances McPhun, from Glasgow, were prominent activists in the campaign for women's right to vote in UK elections.

They were arrested in London in March 1912 for taking part in a mass window smashing protest and sentenced to two months hard labour in Holloway Prison, where they were subjected to force feeding after going on hunger strike.
