University of Edinburgh vice-chancellor and principal Sir Peter Mathieson who is paid £421,667-and his wife own the plush home located in one of the most prestigious postcodes.

Situated within walking distance of the All England Club, apartments can rent for up to £7000 a week during the Wimbledon tennis event.

The couple bought the house for £665,000 in 2014 and it is now estimated to be worth up to £1million.

Mathieson lives in a five-bedroom £1.7million townhouse, owned by the university, in Edinburgh's Regent Terrace.

He has repeatedly refused to give up the paid-for accommodation despite staff facing cuts at his institution as part of plans to save £140million.

The revelations come after we told how Mathieson had racked up £47,000 on luxury overseas junkets in two years.

Our investigation also reveals he is a director of five companies alongside his university job and says he still does not know how much he is paid.
