Less than 50 convictions since law on danger breed

FEWER than 50 convictions have been secured relating to banned XL bully dogs since new laws were brought into force.

The breeding, selling, abandonment and exchange of the dogs was banned in Scotland in February last year and owners have to apply for an exemption certificate to keep their animals.

There have since been just 13 successful criminal prosecutions for owning one of the dogs without documentation.
