TARGETED Hackers accessed information on Co-op customers

- BY JENNIFER HYLAND

THE Co-op has admitted hackers accessed the details of millions of customers in the latest spate of cyber attacks on major chains.

Cyber criminals infiltrated the supermarket chain's IT networks and stole customer and employee data on Wednesday.

The group, calling itself DragonForce, claimed to have the private information of 20million Co-op customers who signed up to the supermarket's membership scheme.

The Co-op had previously said it had taken “proactive measures” to fend off hackers and it was only having a “small impact” on its operations.

But a spokesperson for the firm has since said the hackers “accessed data relating to a significant number of our current and past members”.
