THE sigh of relief that swept around Stamford Bridge could be heard for miles. Boy, did Graham Potter need this.

When Wesley Fofana scored the winning goal early in the second half at a tense Bridge, he delivered a clenched fist salute to his manager – and got one back. Something had gone right for a change.

Had this gone wrong, like so many lately, the writing would have been on the wall for Potter. This narrow, nervy win may only be buying the Chelsea manager more time. But right now he will take that.

Potter said: “I am delighted with the win because it has been a tough period. Delighted for the players and the supporters because they have had to suffer.
