Elite rangers join Nato allies to protect Sweden

THE Army's elite Ranger Regiment has been called in to reinforce new Nato member Sweden's bid to protect itself from any potential Russian aggression.

They will work alongside US Navy Seals and other Nato special forces in preparation for any attack that may come via neighbouring Finland, which shares an 830-mile long border with Russia.

For the past month, soldiers from the 3 Ranger battalion have been learning to live and fight in Lapland, where the temperature routinely drops to minus 30C.

Based at the remote Arvidsjaur training area, they have been instructed by Sweden's 193 Jägarbataljonen, a special forces unit which specialises in Arctic warfare.
