Platform 'must act faster' on migrant clips
MILLIONS of people have viewed and engaged with accounts and videos posted on TikTok which promote dangerous small boat Channel crossings.
People smugglers have used footage of migrants “openly taunting” Border Force vessels, inset, to falsely claim the perilous journey is easy to make.
The Sunday Express found more than 10 accounts suspected of being linked to the illegal crossings in just a matter of minutes of searching on the Chinese-owned video app giant. Some accounts even quoted prices and contact details.
TikTok has been accused of “fuelling” the deadly trade by allowing its app to be “an open shop window” for boat crossings.
Each account had posted numerous videos, each attracting millions of views.
These were taken down by TikTok after we contacted them.
