AI surgical robots to slash recovery times and free up hospitals

at Royal Stoke University Hospital

The digital, AI-led robots, capable of performing complex cancer, cardiac and emergency operations, are being rolled out across the UK in what surgeons describe as one of the biggest advances in modern medicine.

At the heart of the robotic system is a powerful computer with builtin artificial intelligence that processes vast amounts of data during an operation, guiding surgeons with extraordinary accuracy while remaining firmly under human control.

The technology, known as da Vinci 5, will allow thousands more patients each year to benefit from minimally invasive surgery — meaning smaller cuts, less pain and far quicker recoveries.

'Computer power is quicker, faster and more accurate'

The new technology is set to significantly reduce long hospital stays — a vital benefit as the NHS continues to struggle with bed shortages and lengthy waiting lists.
