Campaigners discuss safety plans for stretch of A84
Appeal: Pupils from Blair Drummond Primary School have been involved in a protest for road safety on the A84 over the last few years
Campaigners have shared their hopes for safety improvements on an accident-prone stretch of road near Blair Drummond Safari Park following a summit.
Transport and council chiefs met with the community last week to discuss the A84 after a major road safety campaign was launched last year following a spate of accidents.
Their campaign included a petition which attracted more than 1,300 signatures urging action on the issue.
It prompted a crunch workshop designed to find a solution to a danger area of road in rural Stirlingshire which was held last Wednesday.
Trossachs and Teith councillor Martin Earl was behind the meeting after receiving support for a workshop meeting with transport chiefs at a meeting of Stirling Council in December.
The meeting included representatives from BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland and Stirling Council as well as local backing from the community chiefs and concerned residents.
Speaking to the Observer, Cllr Earl was left optimistic about progress made during the crunch talks - but acknowledged the true assessment of how it went will arrive when the proposals for improvements are finally made.
