Incineration concerns are raised
Stirling Observer
|April 23, 2025
Concerns that recyclable waste could be sent for incineration by Stirling Council have been raised before councillors.
-
At a recent meeting, sole Green councillor Alasdair Tollemache sought assurances from environment, transport and net zero convener, Labour's Cllr Jen Preston.
Cllr Tollemache asked her to confirm that only the council's waste that is not able to be recycled and/or composted or reused would be treated by incinerator.
He also sought assurances that the incineration process for any waste which was sent would not be harmful to humans in terms of its emissions and that the process would be monitored and meet any environmental regulations and legislation.
Cllr Preston said: "Only Stirling Council's residual waste-that is, waste that cannot be recycled, composted or otherwise reused-will be sent for incineration.
"All waste presented within the grey bin is treated via incineration-there is no pre-treatment removal of any recyclable material from this stream.
